gambit weekly's top 50 bar guide 2010

three mentions this year!!
Although the recent addition of DJs has imparted a club vibe, the spacious bar is still the kind of place where dog-walking neighbors and top-shelf drinkers mingle.
The Lower Garden District bar started hosting trivia this past fall, but the crowd it draws has already outgrown the space. The quizmaster asks six rounds of questions, including a "shout-out round," testing players' knowledge of a range of topics. Prizes include liquor, t-shirts and glasses.
Admission is $5 per team. 8pm Tuesdays.
The photos on the walls of Bridge Lounge are a sure sign of the Lower Garden District bar's feelings about four-legged guests. The bar stocks dog treats and leashed animals are welcome inside.

This Lower Garden District bar may be unimpressive, but inside you'll find a relaxing, friendly vibe with comfortable seating and drink specials that make it great place for unwinding after work during the week. The bar is open until at least 2 a.m. on weekends. Weekday happy hour is from 4 to 7 p.m., with a $1 off most mixed drinks and cocktails. Try: Making a date with your dog at the city's most dog-friendly bar.

The canine-friendly Bridge Lounge is one doghouse to which people happily flock. Arty, floppy-eared photos line the dimly lit walls, and scrawled blackboards advertise du jour wines, craft cocktails and small plates of bar food. Should Canal Street ascend to its Broadway South aspirations, consider this Lower Garden District hotspot our one-block Brooklyn.

"For libation lovers with pets, the Bridge Lounge is known around town as a self-proclaimed “dog bar.” Pictures of pups of all shapes and sizes adorn the walls of this hip, cement-floored hound haven. A variety of table types (bench, wall booth, cocktail) allows for easy movement through the bar’s empty space (which, on busy nights, there isn’t much of).

Tuesday is Dog Night, where dog mommies and daddies are encouraged to bring their furry babies to the bar. Nightly, Bridge Lounge offers free Wi-Fi."

The gritty-meets-artsy vibe of the semi-gentrified Lower Garden District has its apex at the Bridge Lounge. Slick but unpretentious, it's a draw for the after-work crowd from the funkier side of the CBD (think the CAC and the Ogden Museum) who dig the black-and-white photography on the walls and the tall, icy mojitos. Most of the photos are portraits of man's best friend, which is fitting since the Bridge Lounge is one of the city's most dog-friendly bars.
